It's A Wrap !!

Unique Gift-Wrapping Ideas

freelancer, Pharrah,
This year I am doing something different.  At Sam's club, I found a package of 25 assorted Christmas gift bags for $14.95.  Since that was such a good deal, everyone is getting gifts in bags this year.

do a massive wrapping party.... then I take my time and hand make each and every bow for each and every package.  Sometimes it takes me a few days but many many hours go into wrapping each year!!!

I am a creative wrapper.  This year I am wrapping quite a few of my brand new grand-daughter's presents in blankets and/or burp clothes (and some have gotten really stylish!) This way both momma and baby will get use out of the present. My son&daughter-in-law asked for money to put toward a set of bed stands.  I found a little, biddy wooden dollhouse furniture bed stand.  I folded and folded and folded the money and put it inside the bed stand.  I plan to set up a little display, complete with this bed stand, and tell them......"Ohhhhh that display is for you guys!"
Although this is not wrapping exactly, I made a wreath for my daughter-in-laws Optometry office.  I bought several pairs of the little craft doll glasses and the Santa glasses.  I decorated the wreath with these glasses to make it appropriate for the practice.

Each year I have the intentions to wrap as I go, however, I always find myself doing the last minute gangbuster wrap.  I love bags and baskets and try to use as often as possible.  Unfortunately some things can't go into a bag!!!!  (lol)I do purchase most of my Christmas wrapping stuff after the holidays as well as most of my new decorations for Christmas.  You know........always trying to save a few bucks.

Ok... first all of my wrapping paper must match.  This year I have purple,
green and then a pattern with purple green and gold. Almost always 2 colors
and one pattern. It makes a great picture of the tree.  I make all of my
bows (I've never used a store bought bow) Yes, I buy all of my wrapping after Christmas and store it away for the next year. Gift tags differ form year to year - sometime I make them, or buy them and one year I used pictures of the recipient on the packages. Of course "Santa's" gifts are wrapped in a completely different paper - I
take the picture on Christmas eve ;)  anjie note:  I AM A FREELANCER JILL WANNA BE!!!!!!!!!!!! this sounds AWESOME!

I generally buy my wrapping paper in bulk when a good sale comes along ( like at the factory card outlet store).  Then on Christmas Eve my husband and I use any paper left over from last year, plus  the new paper I
bought on sale, and we have a wrapping marathon.  I tend to wrap with whatever paper is closest to me and slap on a name tag and viola, I am done.  My husband, however, tends to use a different paper for each present, place ribbons and bows (he feels this adds to the x-mas feeling) and viola, he is done.  Personally, the kids don't care what we wrap in.  They just want their presents.  I do put more effort into presents for adults - I may include a bow. LOL
anjie note: NOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE ME..............um............get the stuff from the attic FACTORY ASSEMBLY LINE STYLE and WRAP the same..............always in a HURRY :(

Well, every year we pick a theme for Christmas decorating, And this year we picked " A folk art Christmas". Which means all the decorations will be quilted, handmade, wood, paper, etc... you get the idea. SO when it comes to wrapping, We try to coordinate that in. This year we are wrapping in red shiny paper with green sheer ribbon for bows. I try to make our packages look as beautiful as possible, I have already started wrapping gifts ( about 2 weeks ago) so that I don't have to rush later on. One year we had a Comics Christmas, where all the decorations were comic book characters. And we wrapped all the gifts in the funnies from the Sunday paper. We had a Victorian Christmas, where we wrapped all the gifts in scraps of velvet and satin from my sewing box, and used cording and ribbons I had received for free from Wrights. Well that is how we do it around here. Thanks Love toya   anjie note: OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG this is AWESOME!

I use wallpaper to wrap my gifts!  I look for the discontinued/clearance rolls at Home Depot or any store that sells them.  You can get awesome deals for wrap to use for all occasions year round.

I think the wrapping is one of the most fun part of X-mas.  I use all kinds of paper & materials.  I make small bags to hold things in.  I make these out of pretty fabric & tie with pretty ribbons.  Or, I make it into a cute purse.
I also use paper bags & decorate them up like little houses.  I attach photos & candy.  I'm doing one that looks like a florist shop. I also use regular wrapping paper.  This years X-mas paper one is decorated with beautiful flowers & it also has a clear design.  The other is decorated with an old world Santa Claus. I also use white butcher paper & decorate it with art work & stamps. I have lots of creative ideas. :)  anjie note: can't wait to see your posts on the frugal craft board!

Anjie, although I have wrapped many different ways , Christmas paper purchased the day after, of course.  My most memorable year was one when I had absolutely no money for wrapping paper (single mom at the time).  I used the Sunday paper.  Adult gifts in black and white pages and kids in comics.  Had some yarn for ties and a couple Christmas stickers for the adults  packages.  It looked really cute.  I will always remember those wrappings.

I use wrapping paper that I know the person will enjoy. For instance if the person is into Disney, I will wrap it in Disney Christmas paper and use ribbon and bows to top it off, including a matching gift tag.

I buy my wrap from my son's school.  The one thing I do pay full price for...I know stop crying...but the school makes out big time for this and it makes me feel good.  Then I sit down and spend about two hours wrapping non-stop until my arms and back feel like they are going to explode, then I yell at my DH for not helping and then I enjoy every second of my family tearing open the stuff and killing all my hard wrapping work!  anjie note: ROFLMAO!!!!!!  these things WILL CHANGE lol.............stick with me and you will NOT be buying the wrapping paper at full price but 90% off cuz you will have MANY more gifts to wrap!  You will be able to buy for much less and you can donate to the school and still come out ahead!  ALSO 2 hours???????????? that will expand too just wait til you do an ANJIE MARATHON when you start adopting families and it takes 16 hours to wrap alone.................LOL...........yep you will be singing a new song! :) XXOOXXOO

I wrap my Xmas gifts with all my 90% off wrapping paper from last year and then I do my own creation like take ribbon on a man's gift and make it look like a tie. Also take all last years Xmas cards and cut out a decorative area for the name tags like a snowman & etc.  (really Freebie didn't have to even buy them???)  anjie note:  I DO THAT TOO with the CARDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I buy my wrap the day after Christmas so I have enough for next year.   Actually, I begin buying Christmas for next year the day after so go figure.   My wrapping may not be an art, but it is like a one time deal, kids have
to be in bed and I just use the whole living room floor.  I get it all done early.  The downfall is that everyone in my family knows I get it done early so that they then ask me to wrap their stuff.  I worked at Hallmark for 4 years so I have a lot of experience wrapping hard to wrap items and getting the edges and ends to look nice.  Not a perfectionist about it, but I seem to do a very neat job.

For Thanksgiving gift for secret pal at church. I had purchased a book for her so I cut one of the ads out of the newspaper.  I cut the page with the cooked turkey on it and put the picture of the turkey on top of the book and tied it with Raffia.  I also cut a turkey out for the tag, same newspaper.  It said Happy Thanksgiving on it I put
"I ain't no turkey".  but I am your secret pal......

I love the site!  Its got everything I need in one place and no hunting all over for anything,
The way that I wrap my gifts is this: For my children, they get one set of wrapping paper from Santa and then another set from Mommy  and Daddy (for example: My son is getting a gold and burgundy print from Santa-he's almost 11 and has to believe in Santa since he is the oldest) and then a nice Christmas print from us). As for gifts for other people: my kids are making the wrapping paper this year.  They are taking brown packing wrap and designing a Christmas scene on it.  They like the idea that they get to help out  with this.

I wrap in whatever I have that is cheap.  I do purchase paper after the holidays - many times you can find paper that works for many holidays/birthdays, not just Christmas.

I've started buying my giftwrap after Christmas.  It just kills me to pay full price when I don't need to!  I usually do a massive wrap and start out making them all very pretty, but by the end I'm in too much pain to care!!  I'm actually almost finished with my wrapping this year!  Wooooooooo Hooooooooooo!!!

freelancer, MARIE

I always purchase my wrapping paper after Christmas for the following year. Isn't that what a freelancer is supposed to do???
I enjoy wrapping gifts and making them very pretty with bows I make and I also add a small ornament of something the person collects tied in with the ribbon.
A family tradition is everyone gets a gift wrapped in the Sunday funnies. My husbands family started that and we have been doing it for years.
