GETTING STARTED ON EBAY and doing it the FREELANCEBYU WAY!     MAKE $$$$ and HAVE FUN

 
If you are going to or want to sell on ebay you need a computer & a digital camera!  if you don't have either one of those please watch the newsletter for DEALS on these items before starting!

 #1  click here and open an EBAY account!  I am giving you my EBAY LINK so that I get nickels when you register!  I also get a nickel for every bid anyone places  thru this link so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE anytime you are visiting ebay use this linky dink!  this helps keep FREELANCEBYU FREE for you!  Some things to keep in mind!  **************OUR EBAY LINK**************
  • create a user name that is easy to remember!  not just for you but for others to find you, once they have bought something from you!
  • you will have "sunglasses" or "new id icon" New ID icon when you start as an ebayer indicating you are NEW....these disappear in 30 days, while you are "new" you will have less people that trust you.  I suggest paying the $5.00 to have ebay verify your identity, this is a vote of reassurance for the buyers out there that you are who you say you are.  You will make this $5.00 back after listing a few auctions (see #7 below for details)
  • you will have "0" feedback when you start.  I suggest making a few bids on CHEAP items (check the going going gone auctions to bid on items that don't yet have a bid or priced very low) and hopefully you will win some things to start your feedback! Feedback is very important and the more positive feedback you have the better! 
  • I suggest having a separate email addy for your EBAY account.  you can get a free account here or here.  This will help to keep your ebay stuffies separate from your main account.
  • I also suggest having a PO BOX so that your address is kept private.  This is not necessary but I have one and it is very helpful.  This would NOT be helpful if you cannot visit your post office regularly. 
  • Open an online checking account This is a great way to have a separate account for ebay and protect your current checking account funds!  You have the money directly deposited into your account from paypal and can pay your ebay fees direct from this account as well!   This bank has a great reputation & is FDIC INSURED.
 
 
#2  Click Here and Open a Paypal Account using the same email addy that you use for your EBAY.  90% of my sales thru ebay are paid thru paypal.  I have a "business" account, that charges you to accept payment but also allows the buyer to pay by credit card.  This is a GOOD tradeoff if you plan on doing lots of auctions.  If you are going to do 1-10 a month the FREE account should do ok by you.  I do NOT suggest accepting personal checks for many reasons but this of course is up to you.  You can have two accounts merged into one (business and personal) and also have a few email addies linked to one account for convenience.
 
 
#3  Click Here and order your $25 in free postage and free postal scale!  this is a GREAT bargain, you make $25 instantly because your buyers will most likely (your choice) pay for postage!   The scale is invaluable for items under 5 lbs.  Make sure you cancel in 30 days, I just called them and told them I was exploring other options to cancel.  They were friendly and did so promptly!   DONT WORRY if you already have done this deal they currently have one for RETURN customers ................read on!  HOT HOT HOT  $25 of free postage for signing up. Join the Power Plan and get free postage. Cancel in the first 29 days if you do not like the service and you owe nothing. You need to stay active for 30 day to get the free scale. 
 
#4  Click Here and order your BUSINESS CARDS to include with your auction packages.  This is a great way to make a GOOD IMPRESSION and give the buyer a card so it makes it easy for them to be a repeat buyer!   YES you can put "proud freelancer" or FREELANCEBYU.COM on them if you like!   :)     These are colorful and great quality, you can not print them yourself for the cost of the postage (under $6) and you can order more than once!  I have gotten GREAT CARDS from them!  I include my po box, web email addy,
Freelancebyu.com etc etc.............I am NOW out of cards since I used them to network at the ebay live convention!  They are awesome
 
#5 Mailing supplies!  Go here and order!  (takes several weeks to rec've)  Get priority boxes, labels and tape for your items FREE.  NO you cannot use for anything but priority but that is a great way to start collecting the supplies you need.    You can also find free address labels here.  Watch the newsletter for more offers for freebies for labels and supplies.  DO all of the offers and collect when you can.  This is an expense that you will need to keep low!  Watch clearance racks for bubble wrap, tissue paper, brown envelopes etc.  Also use the OFFICE DEALS in the newsletter (like save $10/25 current offer) and order them with the discounts!  
 
#6  GREAT RESOURCES!  I have read and re-read this book!  It is AWESOME and gives many tips (too many to list) that I have used and re-used on ebay.  I just bought this book at the conference, haven't read yet so not sure how it compares to the first one, but saw the speaker at ebay and was very impressed!  CLICK HERE

#7   LIST AN AUCTION OR TWO to get started AFTER becoming a buyer and doing all of the above steps.  This will "season" you on how things are done and hopefully  you will learn what it is you like and don't like about being a buyer!  This helps you to be a better seller.  Make sure that you are honest and write EVERYTHING you can in your description to avoid being bombarded with questions from potential buyers.  If you do get questions answer them promptly and politely! 
 
#8 FIND YOUR NICHE........this is by far the best tip I can give you! Sell what you KNOW, sell what you enjoy!   Once you have decided WHAT you want to sell you will be able to expand, find resources, research re-sell and wholesale options etc.   
 
#9  USE A CREDIT CARD to pay for your postage and EARN TOO there are a few of the credit cards that I use to earn money on the postage that I pay for (and collect to pay)  This is FREE for you to do!  collect payment for postage and charge to your credit card to earn Gift CERTIFICATES!  This is the one I use:   FREE amazon GC for being approved for CREDIT CARD!
