OPERATION SANTA what it is and how it started Hello fellow freelancers & elves! I am just going to take a minute to tell you what exactly operation santa is and how it started! Many of you already know and were elves last year and many of you are NEWBIES that have just NO CLUE about Operation Santa is! SO HERE GOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last year we were participating in a MONTHLY freelancebyu contest, where we asked freelancers a daily question about christmas, like "what is your favorite Christmas Carole?" "how do you decorate your tree?" etc........... and each time a freelancer answered the question they were entered into a drawing for a December prize. One day I asked "if you had just one wish for Christmas, not for your kids, spouse, parents etc, but for YOU what would it be and why?" Well, I got TONS of responses and sat at my computer and read and read. As I read the requests I was reminded once again just how fortunate I was personally and how fortunate other freelancers were, getting things FREE from freebies, contests, rebates and almost free from deals etc and just KNEW that I could personally grant many wishes from freelancers for Christmas. I could not possibly grant ALL of the wishes myself and the list was so long that I thought I would share the list, say a prayer and hope that freelancers around the US would join together and create Christmas Miracles ! I talked to Marshall and had his support and commitment to help and he thought was a WONDERFUL idea! NOW TO WISH FOR A MIRACLE TO HAPPEN........... EXACTLY THAT HAPPENED we had a BUNCH of AWESOME ELVES, the staff at freelancebyu and even some Affiliates pop in and GRANT SOME HOLIDAY MIRACLES! Some of the miracles were nothing more than a personal letter, others were some very generous gifts. EACH recipient and ELF had participated in something they would never forget! I keep the THANK YOU letters posted on the website YEAR ROUND and I don't think ANYONE could have a DRY EYE after reading them. NOW, many of you ask, "why not include CHILDREN aren't they the ones that Christmas is really for?" Well, let me explain, I am a SOCIAL WORKER by trade and thru my experiences with SOCIAL SERVICES, COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARDS, and SCHOOLS. I know there are MILLIONS and I mean MILLIONS of sponsors for kids out there. You just have to look around and do a little foot work and believe me, there will be NO CHILD w/o Christmas in this country if you seek out help. COMPANIES, CHURCHES, INDIVIDUALS all pull together at Christmas to make sure this doesn't happen. We are trying to help out the UNTAPPED that are often forgotten, or just deserve a little something , hope or encouragement in the season where ALL should feel GOOD!
